My primary responsibility is to improve the orbits of comets and the study of the evolution of their movement. Examples of the projects and scope of my contribution include:
  • The calculation of ephemerides of asteroids and comets.
  • Writing program modules and algorithms (FORTRAN, C++), for the problems of celestial mechanics and orbital dynamics. Developing of astronomical software and web interfaces.
  • Developing and maintaining the SQL database of small bodies of Solar System.

Ph.D. dissertation: Motion of comets with irregularly non-gravitational effects
The main purpose of the dissertation was to develop a method for constructing numerical theories of comet motion on the basis of Marsden's non-gravitational acceleration model and its modifications, covering long time intervals, and its verification on a number of comets that have large numbers of appearances poorly represents by a single orbit. Dissertation includes the following research:
  • Method for constructing long-term numerical theories of comets motion, which takes into account changing with time non-gravitational effects. It allows to combine a large number of appearances by a single orbit. The efficiency of this method has been proven in the construction of numerical theories of motion of several comets.
  • Numerical theory of motion of the 22P/Kopff comet in the interval of 1906–2002, uniting 16 appearances. Analysis of the evolution of non-gravitational effects over time. Elements prediction for the next appearance. Nucleus orientation parameters and their change over time.
  • Using positional observations of the comet 9P/Tempel 1 from 1967 to 2010 the non-gravitational acceleration and instantaneous change of the comet velocity due to collision with impactor of Deep Impact space mission were determined.
  • Shifts of maximum gas productivity have been obtained for 20 short-periodic comets using photometric and dynamic methods. An analysis and evaluation of the results have been carried out.
  • Halley - Electronic Catalogue of Comets is software for management and working with the comets database.

Investigation of a binary asteroid in terms of preventing a possible collision of Earth with such objects and in terms of the evolution of the binary system.
